Regulate Your Thoughts

“Our own worst enemy cannot harm us as much as our unwise thoughts. No one can help us as much as our own compassionate thoughts.” – Buddha

“The old woman, all decked in black, held me by the neck and dragged me to the innermost part of the coven at the deepest part of the sea. There were seven other old, haggard-looking women, all also decorated in black, sitting in a circle. At the middle was a huge fire…”

That was an encounter by an acquaintance of mine, Maloto, popularly known as ‘Warrior’ amongst his friends. The reason is that he fights every night, no, every day and night – with principalities and powers, forces of darkness, and all sorts. Once he closes his eyes to sleep, he’s immediately transported to the battlefield. Expectedly, Maloto has a constant attack of migraine, caused by his enemies.

Do you know that your health, destiny, good luck, bad luck, fortune, misfortune, etc. are all direct results of the kind of thoughts you entertain?

Do you know that the only person affecting the course of your life is your thought? Who you are is the complete sum of all your thoughts, for your thoughts make you.

So, my friend, now you know your reality is a projection of your thoughts or the things you habitually think about, ensure that your thoughts are always pure, your intentions always clean.

Good Morning!

Raso Omunagbe Is Gone

“On life’s journey, faith is nourishment, virtuous deeds are a shelter, wisdom is the light by day, and right mindfulness is the protection by night. If a man lives a pure life, nothing can destroy him.” – Buddha

Last night I got a call from Uncle Ayus telling me that his friend, Uncle Raso, has passed on. But who is Uncle Raso, by the way? Raso, a nickname carved out of Reuben, was a builder of men, with an always curiously positive approach to issues. He was a man of peace.

Although Uncle Raso is no more, I am particularly happy, not just that he was, but especially that our paths crossed. Although his lamp may have been extinguished, his light shines on in the hearts he touched.

And such, dear reader, is the fact of life. The death of Uncle Raso diminishes humanity, for it is not him that passed on but a part of all of us that has. His song may have ended, but his melody lingers on. The truth is that he’s not gone because he lives in our hearts. We will therefore not just remember him for the things he provided for us, but for the inspiration he engendered in us.

Dear Uncle Raso, you’re like a stained-glass window, for you sparkled and shined when your sun was at its meridian; but now your darkness has set in, your true beauty is revealed – because you lived the pure light from within you.

And so, dear reader, let us always be aware of the sacred light with which we are entrusted so that when our time is up our true beauty will be revealed to those we leave behind.

Have A Thoughtful Day!

Be a Rainbow

“The gem cannot be polished without friction, nor man perfected without trials.” – Chinese proverb

Depression is a state of mind.

Often it is caused by intense pain. But you’ve got to understand that pain is life’s reality and everyone encounters it.

Do you keep all your pains to yourself because you’re scared to tell someone how much you hurt?

Sure there’s someone in your life to who you can talk. Sometimes all you need is to communicate.

Or, sometimes, cry. And when the crying is over, you’ll stand up and hold on, stronger. It’s necessary for emotional readjustment.

And, dear reader, you’ve got to be the rainbow in someone’s cloud because the most painful scars can’t be seen – they run deep within the soul.

Good Morning!
Did you know? – Rainbows depend on the angle of the sun; they can be seen when the sun is at an angle of 42 degrees, and that is why rainbows are mostly visible during sunrise and sunset.

Knowing When to Quit

“When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be. When I let go of what I have, I receive what I need.” – Lao Tzu.

I know a woman who receives the beating of her life regularly from her husband of 8-year marriage. She has done everything humanly possible to avoid this without success. The more she tries, the worse it gets. She has several bodily injuries as a result.

There’s a young, brilliant graduate with honours from a University who can’t secure gainful employment. He’s into petty trading in the hope to build on it. But for five years he does everything he possibly can yet the business isn’t just growing. The more he tries, the more he succeeds in failing.

This man and woman have often been advised never to quit when the going gets rough. The truth is that there’s nothing wrong with that advice. But the question is, should one never really leave? Isn’t there a point at which quitting is better? Isn’t there a situation where stopping is necessary and when not quitting is even foolish?

I believe that sometimes quitting is an act of strength and not weakness. It is better to leave than hanging on to something that’s killing you. Sometimes you cannot move forward in life until you let go; the important thing is never to forget what the hurt taught you.

My friend, if you want to fly, you’ve got to leave the ground. If you’re going to move forward, you’ve got to let go of that which drags you down. You see, some struggles in life must be continued, and some must be brought to a close – the wisdom is in knowing which, and when.

Did you know? – If you quit smoking for 24 hours, your chances of having a heart attack decrease significantly.

Life is going to find a way to test you. At times, you may feel that life is unfair. The urge to quit during these times is the highest but don’t give in.

Whatever your dream is, if it’s important to you, fight for it. Just remember that there is more than one way to achieve your goals. If one method doesn’t work, change your strategy.

Not giving up doesn’t mean you keep doing the wrong things over & over; it means figuring out the correct actions to take to achieve your dreams.

Push Yourself. Push!

“If we understood the power of our thoughts, we would guard them more closely. If we understood the power of our words, we would prefer silence to anything negative. In our thoughts and words, we create our weaknesses and strengths. Our limitations begin in our hearts where we can always replace negative with positive.” – Unknown

I watched a game of soccer yesterday. At half time Team A was two goals down. Five minutes later it was down to ten men due to a red card. Some of their fans started leaving the stadium. But ten minutes later the team pulled a goal back, and the game suddenly changed. They ran, dribbled, kicked, jumped and fought. Soon they pulled back another goal and at the nick of time Team A scored the deciding goal.

Are you one of those who think that someone is responsible for their failure in life? I’ll tell you straight away: you (and you alone) either push yourself forward to success or pull yourself back from it – through your mental self-image. That’s one of the most important factors that inhibit your achievements.

You see, until you remove the mental barriers and fear of your inability to succeed, you cannot control your performance because how you think affects how you feel and how you feel affects how you perform.

So, to achieve anything in life, you must first get out of your way, because your thoughts go a long way to impact what you’re doing. If you’re afraid to fail, then there’s the likelihood that you’ll fail.

My friend, the day you start viewing pressure as a challenge to meet rather than a threat to avoid, that day you begin your climb to the top. Your attitude to challenge is the key because you’ll never know your limits until you push yourself to them. Therefore,

Push Yourself. Push!

Life Purpose

“If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it’s because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however, measured or far away.” – H D Thoreau

Hey, have you figured out your life purpose?

I daresay there can be no genuine fulfilment until you find and live that purpose.

Surely, life purpose cannot be found in the externalities, because it’s not what you look at that matters; it’s what you see.

Hence we’re advised to seek first the kingdom of God within. Therein lies the recipe of your purpose – in the sweet harmonics of the ever-evolving universe.

Do you want to find your purpose? You’ve got to live your dreams, for that’s the only way you can turn the world around.

Have A Purpose-Full Day!

Protect Your Mind

“I will not let anyone walk through my mind with their dirty feet.” – Mahatma Gandhi

Everyone has a thinking mind right from birth.

As we go through life, this mind gathers experiences. Some of the lessons are so traumatic their scars never go away. But whatever your situation, never allow anyone to feed your mind with garbage.

Always keep pure the hearth of your thoughts because that is the source of success or failure, good or evil, happiness or sadness.

Although you may be weak and broken, your mind remains your palace. Therefore keep it sacrosanct – it is the source of your power!

Have A Mindful Day!

Everything is Possible if You Dream and Do

“Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Willing is not enough; we must do.” – Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Do you wonder why some people become accomplished, and some are not? Although many people have intelligence and desire, yet they do not make progress in achieving their goals.

Note that there is a big gap between knowing and doing. The will to apply your knowledge and then take action are the most critical factors in fulfilling your goals and desires.

Have an Action Day!
Did you know? – To change your current reality, you need to shift your state of mind by thinking new thoughts to create new feelings and ways of being.

Procrastination, the Lazy Man’s Apology

“The best possible way to prepare for tomorrow is to concentrate with all your intelligence, all your enthusiasm, on doing today’s work superbly today. That is the only possible way you can prepare for the future.” – Dale Carnegie

Some people are natural procrastinators. It’s just their nature. Whenever they need to do something, their first instinct is to put it off until later.

Everyone loves to relax and laze around, but successful people understand that no one obtains success overnight. It comes in instalments; a little bit today, a little bit tomorrow until the whole package is given out. The day you procrastinate, you lose that day’s success.

Procrastination’s not the problem; the problem is your attitude to the problem.

Have An Active Day!
Did you know? – The Procrastinator’s Club of America identifies its purpose as “the philosophy of relaxation through putting off until later, those things that needn’t be done today.” Its newsletter is titled “Last Month’s Newsletter.”
