Practical Religion

“If you would convince a man that he does wrong, do right. But do not care to convince him. Men will believe what they see. Let them see.” – Henry David Thoreau

Hey, do you think only members of your religion are pure enough to make “heaven”? Think again.

Irrespective the name of your religion, its goodness is not heralded by the result of what you do not do; it is proclaimed by you practising outside your worship place the great lessons you are taught within that worship place.

An example will always be better than precepts – let it begin with you.

  1. The Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ is central to the gospel. It’s indeed the good news. Jesus desires us to go to all the world and tell people what He has done for mankind, He paid our debt, confess Him as Lord and saviour, that’s the gospel.

    His teachings and the rest of the Bible are the terms of the kingdom he came to give us. But beyond the moral codes, the scriptures, is the dominant Truth: the cross and the Resurrection.

    1 Corinthians 15:1-8 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
    By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
    For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
    And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
    And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:
    After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.
    After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles.
    And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.

    Above all arguments, Jesus Christ himself said, I am THE way, THE truth and THE life,. He went further to declare that NO ONE comes to the father except through him. We either believe the Lord or choose the path we want. It’s a free will journey.

    • I agree completely with all you’ve said. I’m wondering, however, why a very good none-Christian man, will go to “hell” just because he isn’t a Christian. Millions are born into different religions, fed and nurtured into that religion, and all they know is about that religion. Sir, are you saying he’ll not make “heaven” even though it wasn’t his fault to have been born into that religion? I’m a bit confused. Please clarify.

    • Tony Okonji! Thank you very much for giving us the truth and that is it. JESUS CHRIST is the WAY the TRUTH and the LIFE. And those who believe in Him are Christ-like and so do not practice/have religion BUT ‘a way of Life’.

  2. My response is actually to clarify Sunny’s confusion; The salvation of Christians or anyone for that matter has absolutely nothing to do with the individual effort. You can never save yourself. The Bible says that, any soul that sineth it shall die, and there’s no remission of sin without the shedding of blood. God therefore, in His infinite wisdom has determined that the only acceptable blood to adequately atone for the sin of mankind is that of His sinless Lamb. Salvation is free and it is for all. The Bible confirms that the end will not come until the scriptures have been preached in all the four corners of the earth. So, the case of being born into paganism in not excusable. All you need to do is accept or reject the salvation offered by the atoning blood of Jesus. Unfortunately most people erroneously believe that they need to be holy, righteously obeying God’s commandments to be saved. But the truth is, your holiness and righteous obedience to God’s commandments is only a proof of your acceptance of the salvation provided by atoning blood of Jesus.
    Suffices to say that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. No one can go to the Father except through Jesus His son.
