“Arguments are like fire-arms which a man may keep at home but should not carry about with him.” – Unknown
Many years ago we had an argumentative neighbour. He’d visit us every 9 pm to listen to the national news broadcast on television.
Although he was neither able to read nor write, and could hardly pronounce a word in English correctly, yet this neighbour would wrestle you to the ground analysing the news – much to the admiration of his equally uneducated listeners but to the annoyance of the only educated adult in the room.
Have you observed that most argumentative people are ignorant on the very topic they argue?
Have you also observed how impossible it is to defeat an ignorant person in an argument?
It is because they only hear what suits them and listen only to respond.
As a friend of mine puts it, arguing with an idiot makes you more of an idiot yourself!
Therefore avoid arguments, especially of religious and political topics – they’re easily capable of destroying relationships.
But if you’re inadvertently drawn into an argument, remember that it is better to lose the discussion to preserve a golden relationship.
Have A Happy Day!
