FIFA U-17 World Cup: Nigeria survive Ecuador scare

The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria are all but through to the round of sixteen of the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup, after beating Ecuador 3-2 at the Estadio Olimpico Pedro Ludovico in Goiania.

Ibrahim Said scored a hat-trick in a pulsating match to see Nigeria through recording a dramatic comeback in the process.

The Golden Eaglets opened the scoring in the fifth minute through Said Ibrahim, before an own goal by Jinadu Daniel brought Ecuador level in the game.

Ecuador went ahead in the scoreline following Mina Johan’s neat conversion from the penalty spot. However, Said Ibrahim scored two quick fire goals in the dying stage of the game to hand the Golden Eaglets a win.

The latest win over Ecuador means that the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria have won two out of two, and sit at the top of Group B in the Under 17 world competition.

Nigeria plays Australia on Friday to wrap up their group stage fixture.
